Dr. Umakanthan received his Internal Medicine and general Cardiology training at Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he served as Chief Medical Resident. He then completed his coronary and peripheral vascular interventional training at the Western Pennsylvania/Allegheny Health System in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Umakanthan has been practicing in Las Vegas since 2008. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology, and Echocardiography. In addition to performing coronary, peripheral vascular and carotid interventions, Dr. Umakanthan has a keen interest in structural heart procedures (including PFO closures and valvuloplasty procedures), venous interventions (including IVC filter placement and DVT extractions), and high risk coronary interventions.
He performs a majority of his angiographic procedures via the radial arterial approach. He spends his free time with his wife and 2 children, and enjoys SCUBA diving and playing tennis.
