On Tuesday, the Nevada State Senate approved $25 million in appropriations for UNLV’s new medical school building. A vote of 19-1 by Senators in favor of the bill now puts funding behind the advancement of Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV. Governor Sisolak was pleased that the senate voted for this measure.
Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak applauded the Senate’s vote, saying the school would help train and keep more medical professionals in the state. In a statement Sisolak said “The project could generate as many as 16,000 jobs over the next decade and help Nevada address our doctor shortage,”
The bill now moves to the Assembly for a vote.
Kerkorian Medical School broke ground on its new building last October. Completion is expected sometime next year.
